Jay's Buggy Build.

It all started with a tool sale in my neighborhood. I purchased a hydraulic pipe bender for the purpose of enlarging my metal fabrication disease. I told the guys I worked with of my new purchase. The question arose why would I ever need a pipe bender? My reply went something to the effect that I could build roll bars (I'm also into four wheeling) or I could simply build a buggy (I have a 1965 Corvair that is too far gone, but would make a great donor for a saindrail).

At that point, I found out one of the guys I work with has a buggy sitting in his garage, and has for many years. It's one of those fiberglass jobs on a VW frame. Apparently, his uncle owed it, and it went to his cousin when his uncle passed on. The story continues with the cousin topping the antifreeze up, because it was low... hence the reason for the brand new gas tank! I imagine at some point the cousin realized he was not the person for the buggy and asked the guy I work with if he wanted it.

The deal was done, and it began disassembly in the new found home. I can guess what happened, but the short story is that the 18 year old kid didn't finish it. Now that he is 34, he's realized he just isn't going to finish it. It was apart when I took him up on the offer to go look at it.

After I took a look at it, I decided to ask him if he would ever part with it. Once I knew I wouldn't offend him by giving him an offer, we talked price, and I found myself in desperate need of storage. That's another story though.

I now have my baby in a storage unit for the winter. With any luck, I'll be in a home by summer. My only real singly guy criteria is to find an ok place with a 4 car garage. We'll see what happens. At least I have my priorities in order!
